Katepan

Captain or The Captain is derived from the greek word katepánō (Greek: κατεπάνω, lit. "[the one] placed at the top", or " the topmost") which was a senior Byzantine military rank and office. The army rank of captain (from the French capitaine) is a comissioned officer rank historically corresponding to command of a company of soldiers.

First L'tenant

The word lieutenant derives from French; the lieu meaning "in place" as in a position (cf. in lieu of); and tenant meaning "holding" as in "holding a position"; thus a "lieutenant" is somebody who holds a position in the absence of his or her superior.
